The fluid dynamics test benches EX400 and EX410 are used to verify the fundamental laws of fluid flow in closed circuits

EX400 410

They allow study of head loss variations as a function of steady fluid velocity. The EX410 also illustrates flow measurement techniques, including calibrated orifice, venturi and pitot tube.
The EX404 flow channel allows study of water with free surface flow. The equipment is built in rigid PVC and with standard industrial components.

Teaching objectives

Flow measurement using a calibrated orifice
Pressure loss in a 1 meter pipe, equipped with three pressure tapings
Pressure loss in standard components:
- Orifice
- 90° elbow with small or large radius
- 45° elbow
- T-junction
- Sudden contraction and enlargement
Visualisation of laminar-to-turbulent flow transition by dye injection
Flow measurement by venturi and pitot tube

Technical specifications

The test benches EX400 and EX410 consist of PVC horizontal bases on which are fixed the components under study. Each component is fitted with pressure tapings which connect to a vertical manometer fitted with a millimetric scale. The EX400 has one manometer board, the EX410 has two.
The second manometer board on the EX410 consists of U-tubes which are connected to the flow measurement devices, the calibrated orifice, the venturi and the pitot tube.
Visualisation of the transition from laminar to turbulent flow is realised by injection of coloured dye into a long channel.
The EX404 tilting flow channel, constructed from rigid transparent PVC and equipped with a vernier depth gauge, allows study of open surface flow around models placed in the channel; a set of models is provided. The channel has a working length of 1 metre, a width of 40 mm and a depth of I 00 mm.

Optional equipment :

- The EX402B water supply module

- The EX408B may be used in conjunction with the EX402B to provide volumetric flow measurement.
