This apparatus for studying the deflection of a cantilever beam is intended to study deflection of beam bending. Simple experiments can be performed to determine the u and v deformations at the free end of cantilevered beams of various sections and for different angles of application of the load. It allows to graphically check the relationship between u/W et v/W.
The apparatus consists of a vertical cantilever beam fixed rigidly at its lower end to the main column of the apparatus, itself secured to a solid base. Beams of various sections can be used.
A loading system, located at the upper end of the beam, can rotate freely around the vertical axis of the beam and a tracking system allows to fix the angular position of this system every 15 °, up to 180 °.
The horizontal load is applied to the free end of the beam by means of a rope connected to the beam and which passes over a pulley mounted on the loading system.
The deformations of the beam are measured by means of two comparators mounted at right angles to the loading head. The action line of the force can be adjusted by the pulley which is movable on its axis. The device is portable and settles on a table without fixing.
The basic unit is supplied with a mild steel L-beam, 12 x 12 x 3 section. Other beams are available on request.
